IFDA Governance & Structure

The Illinois Funeral Directors Association is made up of three regions. IFDA elects its officers and directors to administer the business of the Association.

The IFDA Board of Directors consists of six officers and six directors. The elected officers are the president, president-elect, vice president, secretary-treasurer. The succession of officers is secretary, treasurer, vice president, president-elect and president. Each region elects two directors and each director serves a two-year term. Terms of directors are staggered. The slate of officers and directors is presented to the IFDA Membership for vote each May.

The IFDA Board of Directors meets in March, June, September and December to conduct business.

 
Constitution
The Constitution provides a framework for the Association's operation and management and can only be amended by vote of the membership. The Constitution was last amended by the IFDA general membership in June of 2010.
 
Code of Ethics
As funeral directors, we herewith fully acknowledge our individual and collective obligations to the public, especially to those we serve, and our mutual responsibilities for the proper welfare of the funeral service profession.

To the public we pledge: vigilant support of public health laws; proper legal regulations for the members of our profession; devotion to high moral and service standards; conduct befitting good citizens; honesty in all offerings of service and merchandise, and in all business transactions.

To those we serve, we pledge: confidential business and professional relationships; cooperation with the customs of all religions and creeds; observance of all respect due the deceased; high standards of competence and dignity in the conduct of all services; truthful representation of all services and merchandise.


To our profession we pledge: support of high educational standards and proper licensing laws; encouragement of scientific research; adherence to sound business practices; adoption of improved techniques; observance of all rules of fair competition; maintenance of favorable personnel relations.

To our Association we pledge support of the mission of the Association; adherence to the Constitution and Manual of Professional Practice; payment of dues in a timely manner; cooperation and correspondence in a reasonable and timely manner on items requested of me.

Committees
Committees & Task Forces supplement the work of the Board of Directors and Staff.  They provide knowledge, time and resources that the Board and staff may not have.  Leadership skills are honed in committees, paving the way for qualified leaders to advance.
