Information for the Family of an Aged Person

Your funeral director is familiar with IDHS rules. In addition, resources which outline the specific requirements for setting up funeral trusts and applying and qualifying for Public Aid are available.

The resources of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association are also available. If you have a very special or unusual situation, help is always there.

What Papers Will I Need To Provide To Public Aid To Verify That I Have Established A Funeral Trust?

The funeral director you or your loved one selects will help. He or she will prepare a Funeral Trust Agreement which shows the services which will be provided for your loved one.

The contract will show how much money is in the trust and what services have been selected. Your funeral director will also help you arrange for receipts and proof of purchase for the services, the casket, vault, grave space, opening and closing charges, and sales tax.

Is There Any Other Person Or Group Who Can Answer Questions Or Give Me Help?

I Feel Uncomfortable Dealing With This Problem. Is This Really The Best Thing To Do?

It is the correct approach. It absolutely works. Thousands of families each year are faced with the same situation. The high cost of providing personal care for someone who is aged or ill can deplete available funds in a very short amount of time. The important thing is to know that you are entitled to provide for funeral expenses before assets are depleted.

Your funeral director meets and counsels with many families in your situation. It is his or her job to help you set up the funeral trust fund you are entitled to. Call your funeral director, and let him or her assist you. You will feel better knowing that you have preplanned and prepared. You will have provided for your loved one.
