Continuing Education

By Illinois law, Funeral Directors and Embalmers are required to obtain 24 hours of continuing education every two year period. As a member, continuing education is included as part of your membership. (There will be fees to cover incidentals and food & beverage.)  IFDA offers a wide variety of educational programs each renewal period so licensees can complete these continuing education requirements.  IFDA believes that continuing education is more than just getting your credits for certification.  It's about building your knowledge base and advancing your career as well as the profession.

As part of its education program, IFDA offers Seminars.  The Seminars provide timely education, fellowship and update members on new programs, services and developments within IFDA and the funeral service profession.  The Seminars are held in each of the three regions - Northern, Central and Southern.

A Funeral Director/Embalmer can earn up to 12 hours of continuing education through home study and/or webinars. A Funeral Director can earn up to 6 hours. IFDA has a number of self-study courses which licensees may register for at any time.  Members can purchase these courses at a reduced price.  To see the available courses visit the IFDA ONLINE STORE.

The funeral service industry is constantly changing.  When things happen you need to know.  We keep members "in the know" with our E-News Bulletins and Special Alert E-Mails. Our E-News Bulletin is a monthly publication sent via email that provides you with the most up-to-date info on legal, legislative and other industry and Association news.  Breaking news is posted on the Latest News feature box on the home page to make sure you have the most current information available to you.  Should critical information arise that you need to know, IFDA Members receive Special Alert messages via e-mail.
