1971 National Silver-Plated Copper Deposit Casket & Circa 1895-1905 Cunningham Hearse for Sale

The 1971 National Silver-Plated Copper Deposit Casket (#21200) was not purchased as part of the sale of Berry Funeral Homes, Ltd. to Calvert Chapels, Ltd. in January of 1991. The casket was purchased from Paul Casket Company in 1974 for $10,500. The casket is currently protected and stored in Virden, IL. Mr. Richard Hamm, owner of Paul Casket Company, stated that this was the exact model of casket Elvis Presley was buried in at the time of his death. It has a blue velvet interior and is in excellent condition. The silver plating has minimal wear noted on the hand rail.

The Cunningham Hearse was built and hand-carved between 1895 and 1905 in Rochester, NY by the James Cunningham, Son & Co., and then shipped by covered wager to Girard, IL after being purchased by the Berry Funeral Home for $2,500. All hardware is bronze and was silver-plated originally. Only the top covering, seat covering, and tires (with original leather tread) have been replaced. Drapes are original. There is a pair of silver kerosene lamps that have never been lit. Used only 32 times, as motor hearses came into being the year the unit was purchased (1910). It was last used for a funeral in 1932. The hearse was in many parades and won many ribbons, including the 1981 Illinois State Fair blue ribbon. This was the hearse featured at the 100th Anniversary of IFDA in Springfield in 1980.
