The IFDA is YOU

By becoming a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, you become a fundamental part of an association comprised of licensed funeral directors and embalmers who pledge to serve Illinois families exemplifying the highest ethical standards within the funeral service profession.

Who Is Eligible Membership?
Depends on the category of membership. For the most part, you need to be a licensed funeral director and/or embalmer in the State of IL, a student enrolled in a Mortuary Science program in the State of IL, or a supplier of goods and/or services to the profession.

EDUCATION

Annual Convention
The IFDA Annual Convention is the largest gathering of funeral professionals in the state. Our goal is to present new ideas from innovators in the profession, new products and services offered by leading-edge suppliers and create a network of valuable resources throughout the state.

Seminars
As part of our education program, seminars provide timely education, fellowship and update members on new programs, service and developments within IFDA and the funeral service profession. Seminars are held in each of the three regions – Northern, Central and Southern.

Online CE Course
IFDA has many self-study course which licensees may register for at any time. Members can purchase these courses at a reduced price.

E-News Bulletin and Alerts
Our monthly E-News bulletin, The Director, sent via email updates on legal, legislative, regulatory and any other industry news. Breaking news and critical information is sent via email through our Special Announcements/Alerts.


ADVOCATE

Advocacy
Laws and regulations have a major impact on how funeral directors conduct their daily business lives. Members have the opportunity to participate in and benefit from state and national representation from IFDA’s grassroots efforts.

Regulatory Intermediator
IFDA maintains a robust working relationship with the state’s regulating body – IDFPR as well as the Treasurer and Comptroller’s offices. The IFDA Board and staff actively participate in legislative and regulatory meetings and serve as a voice for the industry on policy and regulatory initiatives.

Ethical Practice Mediation

IFDA handles ethical practice complaints submitted by consumers and funeral directors alike through our Ethical Practice System. Through this system submissions made concerning a member are handled internally by our funeral colleagues; nonmember complainants are directed to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

IFDA actively recruits volunteer leaders for service on the Board of Directors and for special and standing committees. Members can lend their unique talents to the advancement of funeral service while sharpening their leadership skills.
