Laws and regulations can have a major impact on how funeral directors conduct their daily business lives.  Support from our members allows the association to establish a political committee (PAC) to support legislative efforts in our industry.  Each year, IFDA members gather in Springfield to meet with government officials and advocate for the funeral profession.

IFDA maintains an active presence in Springfield and Washington D.C. with resources that include full-time staff and lobbyists.  With new laws being introduced on an almost daily basis, IFDA has made it our responsibility to track these new laws and evaluate their impact on funeral service.  With the assistance of lobbyists, IFDA hopes to best meet the needs of members now and in the future.

In addition to our strong lobbying efforts, the association also maintains a robust working relationship with the state's regulating body - IDFPR.  The IFDA Board and staff actively participate in legislative and regulatory meetings and serve as a voice for the industry on policy and regulatory initiatives.

Ethical Practice Mediation
IFDA handles ethical practice complaints submitted by consumers and funeral directors alike through our Ethical Practice System.  Through this system submissions made concerning a member are handled internally by our funeral colleagues; nonmember complainants are directed to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
