Welcome to the Illinois Funeral Directors Association!

We know you work very hard to achieve success, whether as a funeral director or a funeral home owner. As “The voice for funeral directors in Illinois" since 1881, we want you to know that the Illinois Funeral Directors Association is working hard to promote the funeral care profession statewide. IFDA's mission is to provide the resources to support our members in being professionally, ethically, and operationally superior, and to advocate for the funeral service profession.

IFDA is the largest association dedicated to licensed funeral care professionals in the state of Illinois with just over 1,300 members and growing. We remain committed to doing everything possible to grow your association, your profession, and your business.

By becoming a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, you become a fundamental part of an association comprised of licensed funeral directors and embalmers who pledge to service Illinois families while exemplifying the highest ethical standards within the funeral service profession.

Advocacy

  • Legislative - Laws and regulations have a major impact on how funeral directors conduct their daily business lives. Members have the opportunity to participate in and benefit from state and national representation from IFDA's grassroots efforts.
  • Regulatory Intermediator - IFDA maintains a robust working relationship with the state's regulatory body (IDFPR), the Treasurer, and the Comptroller's offices. The IFDA Board of Directors and staff members actively participate in legislative and regulatory meetings, serving as a voice for the industry on policy and regulatory initiatives.
  • Ethical Practice Mediation - IFDA handles ethical practice complaints submitted by consumers and funeral directors alike through our Ethical Practice System. Submissions made through this system concerning a member are handled internally by our funeral colleagues, while nonmember complaints are directed to the IDFPR.
